Vera Louise Fletcher, a native Houstonian, of which she is very proud, received her childhood education from Burrus Elementary and Booker T Washington High School. She attended Southwestern Christian College, Abilene Christian College, Prairie View A & M University and Texas Southern University. Vera is not one who uses past accomplishments to shine her light, because that is not who she is. However this does show that she is a hard worker who is determined to be her “best self”, both spiritually and physically. Vera Louise Fletcher was a former San Jacinto Girl Scout Troop leader for twelve years. She excitedly pledged Phi Delta Kappa (Just Us Delta Chi) in the spring of 1999. Vera has also spoken at several Ladies’ Day programs throughout the city of Houston and surrounding areas, not to become known but to uplift and
encourage her fellow sisters and friends. Although a retired educator, she recently returned to work as a
Reading Tutor because she believes that reading helps to boost self- esteem, allows students to perform better in school, change the way they see the world and that anyone can be successful no matter who they are or where they were born. Vera Louise Fletcher is presently a member of the Fifth Ward Church of Christ in Houston, Texas. She has served with this congregation for the past six years as a Wednesday night Bible class teacher for grades 3, 4 and 5. She works with the Sister’s ministry, the Monday Morning Ladies Bible Class, the Season Saints Ministry, a greeter once a month, sings with the Ladies’ Ensemble and works with the kitchen ministry. To put it all together, Sis. Vera Fletcher works and serves wherever she is needed within the Lord’s church.
